A 'GLEE'fully emotional tribute to Cory Monteith

A 'GLEE'fully emotional tribute to Cory Monteith

The broadcast of latest episode of Glee on March 11th simply tore our hearts into bits and pieces. Tears ran down the faces of viewers as the Glee cast gave an unexpected tribute to deceased cast member, Cory Monteith. The episode 'City of Angels' had the William McKinley High School's glee club New Directions performing at the Nationals. They dedicated this performance to Finn Hudson, the screen character of Monteith, by performing on all his favourite songs. Hudson played the character of the star quarterback of the school who joined the Glee club while facing the risk of being alienated by his friends. The story of this character revolved around his coming to terms with the fact that he loved the Glee club but he also had to save his social image as a popular jock.

The heart rending performance: New Directions, concluded their Nationals performance with U2's 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' which took Hudson's mother by surprise and she sobbed away while saying 'this was Finn’s favourite song…they're singing all of his favourite songs.' Viewers were then shown flashbacks of the greatest moments from Finn's life in the form of a video montage.

In the end, character Sam Evans proudly held up Hudson's drumsticks as a respect and remembrance to their former leader. This was a second tribute to Monteith, as Glee had earlier dedicated an entire episode called 'The Quarterback' to him. Both these tributes definitely stirred up the viewers' souls and left them emotionally moved.

A dear friend lost: Cory Monteith died in July last year from a heroin and alcohol overdose in a hotel in Vancouver. The incident shook up the entire cast and crew of Glee as they had all lost a dear friend. The jolt was most strongly felt by co-star Lea Michelle who was then engaged to the deceased Glee star both on and off screen. After this dreadful loss, the cast and crew of Glee struggled to come to terms with the fact that the spirited actor would now never perform alongside them. The script writers had to abruptly cut off the character of Finn Hudson by showcasing his death on screen.

Rachel, played by Lea Michelle, shook the viewers with a tearful tribute to her former boyfriend on the show as she sang 'make you feel my love' while clutching on to her precious Finn necklace.

Upcoming 'century': The show has made us all laugh and cry for five seasons now. The cast and crew celebrate the show's success with the 100th episode which is all set to be aired. Moving from an emotional 99th, we hope that the century episode puts a smile on our faces.
